| The expansion project consisted in creating a new public hall, doubling the exhibition area to 200,000 square feet, creating the largest columnless multi-functional room in Canada with further meeting areas that can be divided into 59 individual rooms, and building an elevated loading dock. Along with the covering of the Ville-Marie Expressway, the Palais des congrès serves to reinstate circulation links between Old Montreal and the city's business core. The project called for the recovery and integration of three existing buildings: Rogers & King, STCUM and fire station #20. A preference was given to environmentally friendly materials such as stone, wood, glass and steel and energy-efficient measures and processes were put in place to ensure efficiency. The Palais des congrès de Montréal is a turnkey project designed by a consortium of architects composed of Ædifica, Saia Barbarese Topouzanov architectes and Les architectes Tétreault Parent Languedoc et associés.
