Ædifica and Sid Lee join forces

Architectural firm Ædifica and Sid Lee (known as Diesel until recently) are officially announcing their collaboration in the development of retail spaces. Under this strategic partnership, Ædifica will support Sid Lee by providing the services of its architects and designers at the Sid Lee office.

Ædifica and Sid Lee have already completed a number of projects together. They joined forces to develop a number of retail spaces including Bose (Time Warner Center/New York) and Brite Smile (a number of U.S. locations). These two projects received awards in the International Store Interior Design Competition hosted by the Institute of Store Planners and VM & SD magazine, as well as the Retail Store of the Year Design Competition hosted by Chain Store Age magazine. They also currently work for Adidas in the USA and SAQ in Canada.

A new store concept for SAQ (Provincial Liquor Board)

Ædifica and Sid Lee worked on SAQ’s new store concept, rethinking the store and shop experience. Instead of simply approaching the challenge from an aesthetics point of view, we invested ourselves into understanding consumer’s behaviours towards product selection vectors such as varietals, taste profiles, origin, wine and food pairing, etc. The outcome can be seen in Laval since last November, where you can experience the new concept, one of a kind for the moment.

Creativity Montreal Contest ... 2 Grand Prizes for Ædifica

The Creativity Montreal Contest, taking over the Commerce design Montreal Awards, which already honored our work many times for commercial projects in Montreal, presented its first Grand prizes in commercial design on October 10. Two Grand Prizes were awarded to Ædifica for the quality of its projects.

A first Grand Prize in the «Shopping Centre & Commercial Mall» category was attributed for the e-Commerce Place Food Court. The second one, rewarding the Brite Smile dental spa concept in the «Store outside of Quebec designed by a local firm» category, is an extension of the numerous recognitions received earlier this year in American contests. The honor also goes to our partners at Diesel, which the project would not have been as remarkable without them.

Finally, a third project, Greiche & Scaff (Fairview Pointe-Claire) was finalist in the « Store of more than 1500 sq. ft. » category.

The e-Commerce Place project wins at Institute of Design Montréal Awards

The e-Commerce Place food court project, where milk became the theme around which the variety of architectural gestures were built for its strong link to the old location of the dairy industry leader Guaranteed Pure Milk, was awarded the Institute of Design Montréal’s – Prix Métropole – category Interior Design. The e-Commerce Place project is a meaningful example of Ædifica’s working method, focusing on the environment instead of being a strict preference for a material or style. As a matter of fact, the jury stressed in particular the beauty of the sculptural wall, made from moulded sheets of white aluminum, illustrating an ocean of milk accentuated by wavelets.
